Challenge yourself
Some people do have exciting visions but don’t believe they can be achieved.
They underestimate their own abilities and put themselves down. As a result,
they never take the actions that could make the dream come true. And so it
remains just that: a dream.
Instead of accepting the challenge and tackling the task ahead, they
“downsize” their abilities, and withdraw. In other words, they are on the run
from stress and from challenge. People who do this end up feeling
discouraged and demotivated.
On the other hand, tasks that seem well within our abilities fail to excite us. In
fact, they bore us.
So there are two types of tasks: the easy one which bores and fails to
motivate or excite and the difficult one which is so challenging we think it is
out of our league.
The trick is to “upsize” your estimation of your abilities. If a challenge doesn’t
excite you, then it probably is beyond your capacities. But if a challenge
excites you, you can achieve it. It excites you because you can imagine
success!
Get out of the rut!
It’s all too easy to find yourself in a rut. Imagine going into a job straight out of
school and staying there, doing the same job, the same work, for the rest of
your working life. How could that happen to anyone? Well, if you get in a rut,
you tend to stay where you are because it’s just so comfortable. You can get
